Quietly freaking out

The noise is unbearable.

The constant stream of people humble bragging and sharing their wins, boasting about living their best lives and telling us what we should be doing so that we can achieve their version of success.

So. much. shouting.

In a world where success is equated with confidence and extraversion it can feel like the people held up as being successful, speaking in public, launching new endeavours, getting promoted, leading teams, organisations or even countries, … seem to be confident, extraverts, comfortable with visibility and self-promotion.

Whether you’re at work, at school, running a business, or even doing a sport, so much emphasis is placed on being seen, on showing up, being out there, building a following, raising your profile.

Even more so nowadays, with social media playing such a prominent role in our lives. We are all supposed to become noisy influencers and marketing machines!

Some days, I have to switch my computer off and just walk away because I can’t take it any more.

All this noise and visibility, makes me feel super uncomfortable.

Shy people like me struggle with being seen. It makes you feel self-conscious, uncomfortable and awkward.

You worry about being judged, about not being good enough, of doing something silly. You worry about all the things.

Because shy people tend not to push themselves forward or shout above the noise, we are often overlooked, and under-estimated.

It has to be possible to succeed…. quietly.

The world needs a mixture of personalities, perspectives and skills to function. We need a balance.

If shy people don’t speak up, and are under-represented in society, the only voices we hear are the loud ones.

Imagine a world with only confident, shouty people. Nobody would be heard. Nothing would get done!

The world needs balance and variety.

And that’s why I decided to speak up, quietly.. and create my new podcast SHY AND MIGHTY.

I’m on a softly-spoken mission to help my fellow shy people be more mighty. Shy people don’t need fixing. We don’t need to change who we are. But, in a world filled with noise and hot air, it’s time for us people to speak up and stop hiding.

The Shy and Mighty Podcast is here to provide quiet-but-powerful words of support and encouragement, plus inspiration from lots of lovely guests who prove that shy can be mighty.

Shy and Mighty is available in all the best places:

I hope you enjoy listening to Shy and Mighty .. and I can’t wait to hear what you think.
